Nadine Asin
Flute
Flutist NADINE ASIN leads a varied career as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral performer. She appears with many of the world’s finest ensembles and conductors, including the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. As an active advocate for new music written for the flute, her premiere performance of Enchanted Orbits, a concerto for flute with chamber orchestra written for her by Augusta Read Thomas, won her great praise, as did her commission and premiere of David Schiff’s After Hours for flute and piano. She has recorded Aaron Avshalomov’s Concerto for Flute on the Naxos label. As a chamber musician, Ms. Asin has appeared with the Great Performers Series at Lincoln Center, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Met Chamber Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, and da Camera Society of Houston, among others. She has performed as principal flutist with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the American Symphony, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, and the Opera Orchestra of New York. Presently on the faculty at Bard College, she also serves as adjunct faculty at the Juilliard School, having previously served as head of the flute department at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She is an artist-faculty member of the Aspen Music Festival and School, and a founding member of the Aspen Ensemble, a mixed quintet of artist-faculty of the AMFS, which tours internationally. She is a prizewinner of the Concert Artists Guild competition, and subsequently served on their board. She currently sits on the board of both the Aspen Music Festival and School, and Chamber Music America. She studied with Julius Baker at the Juilliard School, where she received her B.M and M.M. degrees.
